I dunno just been seeing this trend from time to time. I am getting some theory by reading all these stories that the issues were with rifles made from 2000-2007? Been seeing here with newer M1A's 2008-? they have been a little more reliable? If you notice every time these threads come up its a mid 2000-2007 rifle, then the users who post no issues are those with rifles purchased around 2008-+ ? I guess I will continue to praise it when it breaks, only to show how long the newer factory parts have lasted before i put in the USGI parts. I love my scout, bought it 1 year ago, over 200 rounds, no issues, all praise. Id rather spend 50 to 100 bucks on those parts than stress out and vent on the internet about it. If and when my scout gives in, I will have the USGI parts ready to make the rifle a solid beast. you need some serious glass, bipods, bolt rifle. Im sure with a bipod or rest bag I could get tighter groups 1-2' But at 200 yards shooting for groups. Shooting tight groups at 100 yards with a m1a scout /standard/loaded/national with some high end glass is tough enough! I get 2 to 3' groups 100 yards off the bench no sand bags or rests, just elbow grease and a hi lux optic lol. That stuff jammed in my SOCOM just as often as Lake City or other NATO headstamped 7.62mm.Дeadcoyote-Some 308 may be hotter than 7.62mm, but technically the rifle is a 7.62mm rifle and that's what I intended to shoot when I bought it.ДЄfter many issues, in fact after the first issue, you should have replaced the parts with the USGI - Using a SOCOM to shoot tight groups at 200 yards? Were you using irons or any optic? The SOCOM is a CQB rifle. Sailormilan2-that's total crap about Springfield not honoring a warranty because of South African surplus.

I'll call Springfield customer service when I get a chance and see what they say, and think about it some. Thanks for those of you offering to help via PM. That's because you could see the scrape mark on one side of a newly-installed feed ramp. Regarding Springfield test-firing rifles, I know that circa 2004-2005 they would fire the rifle exactly once and see if the next round chambered, and that's it. The factory extended rail I have on my SOCOM II is a major contributing factor in this regard as the empty brass sometimes gets flung straight up into it and then bounces back down into the action, but various FTEs/stovepipes still occurred before the extended rail was installed at the factory. But the much more common jam is the brass not being flung out with enough force, then stove-piping when the bolt moves forward with the next round. They always polish the chamber when I send it back, and failure to extracts still occur. If it's mostly a failure to extract issue, you need to polish the hell out of the chamber. Should I give it to a gun buyback program? In my opinion, Springfield owes me a replacement rifle that has been fired at least 100 times in a row without a jam, or my money back.ДЇor anyone reading this, stay far away from anything made in the past decade by Springfield, if you aren't already. Packing and sending the rifle back is a PITA, taking it to the range is always an exercise in frustration, and I don't know what to do. Once put back on the rifle still jammed every 3-10 rounds, and Springfield's repair didn't help at all. And it's not just me, I had a friend who bought a standard M1A in 2003 had it's bolt roller fall off before he ever fired a round.

I just can't get over how poorly made this expensive rifle is, and how their lifetime free service is worthless. It was also extraordinarily difficult to disassemble for the first tim, but that became easier as I suppose the rougher metal edges wore off. The rifle's 4-5' groups (sometimes worse) are quite disappointing as well.

for that particular bolt, when I sent it back to Springfield they said it was defective-and it was a bolt they had given me for a previous jamming issue I had sent the rifle back for! Additionally, the latest time I received the rifle back, I noticed the elevation knob had a big crack in it and doesn't click correctly. Another time the bolt (a different one) just flew apart with springs flying everywhere. One jam was so bad the extractor got yanked out of the bolt. I made the unfortunate decision one time to have the extended rail that goes over the chamber added, because that's just another object for the brass to get stuck on. I have sent it back three times over the years and every time it had come back jamming just as often, except the latest time where it is jamming every 10 round on average! This is universal across all types of ammo I've shot-always 7.62mm surplus, whether Lake City, South African, German, etc. I bought a Springfield SOCOM II back in 2006 and have had problems with it jamming on average of once every 20-40 rounds.
